Protease inhibitors block viral enzymes critical for virus replication, acting like molecular scissors that are disabled to prevent viral spread. Our formula targets the 3CL protease of SARS-CoV-2, a key enzyme for viral multiplication [1]. Chinese Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) contains baicalin and baicalein, flavonoids shown to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), a crucial enzyme for viral replication [2]. Baicalin also exhibits antiviral activity against influenza A and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) by inhibiting neuraminidase activity and reducing viral replication [3][4]. Purple Gromwell Root (Lithospermum erythrorhizon) contains shikonin, a compound demonstrated to inhibit viral protease enzymes, including those of HIV and SARS-CoV-2, by binding non-covalently to the active site [5]. Sunflower Lecithin enhances the bioavailability of active compounds by improving their absorption and stability, facilitating more effective delivery of bioactive ingredients [6].
